Areas of Concentration in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics are meant to reflect the full breath and depth of our faculty expertise in population health. Categorizing our research and training interests in this informal way goes beyond the broader organizational and administrative structure of our six Divisions.
We have 11 Areas of Concentration that span the fields of epidemiology and biostatistics. They are presented in this manner to encourage trainees and collaborators to understand our focus in each of these areas and to see the primary and affiliated faculty who self-identify as having expertise in these areas. An entering graduate student, for example, can survey these Areas of Concentration to search for topics and mentors to get them started in their chosen area of graduate study. There are lots of examples of overlap where an individual faculty member may have an interest in more that one area (e.g., infectious disease and global health; cancer and genetics). By clicking on each individual faculty member one can go to their UCSF or other institution website for more details.
