Title: Breast Density, Body Mass Index, and Breast Cancer Risk: Implications for Clinical and Public Health Settings

Summary: Breast density and obesity are two of the most common risk factors for breast cancer among U.S. women and are increasingly used for clinical breast cancer risk stratification. However, the importance of these risk factors and their combined effects on breast cancer incidence in individuals and populations is relatively unknown. Natalie’s dissertation uses novel measures of breast density to evaluate the independent and joint effects of breast density and obesity on breast cancer, providing insights into the public health impact and clinical relevance of these two risk factors for breast cancer.

Epi Tools Workshop Series: Jarvis Chen

Jarvis Chen is a social epidemiologist whose research focuses on social inequalities in health, and especially racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in cancer outcomes. As a methodologist, Dr. Chen's interests include the development of methods for geospatial and spatiotemporal analysis, disease mapping, handling missing data, and latent variable analysis.
