We want to extend a warm welcome to Janne Boone-Heinonen, PhD, MPH, who joined the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies in the School of Medicine on July 1, with an academic appointment in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics (in the Division of Lifecourse Epidemiology).
Janne joins DEB after 13 years at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), where she was most recently an Associate Professor of epidemiology and program director for the OHSU School of Public Health’s MPH in epidemiology.
Her research focuses on understanding environmental and behavioral approaches to mitigating the trans-generational cycle of obesity and cardiometabolic disease, with focus on maternal and early life influences on obesity susceptibility. She utilizes electronic health record data, prospective cohort data and other population data sources with a focus on marginalized populations in the U.S. She looks forward to developing new research collaborations at UCSF in the areas of maternal and child health, nutrition throughout the life course and obesity-related practice and policy.
Janne has enjoyed living in the Bay Area since relocating with her husband and two sons two years ago. Outside of work, she spends her time getting her children off their screens and running with the amazing clubs and race series in the area.
