Childhood lead exposure affects more than 500,000 children under 6 years old in the U.S., but only 14 states recommend regular universal blood screening. Drs. Logo and Gadgil will report on novel approaches using machine learning to accurately predict the risk of childhood lead exposure from school drinking water and other sources. These models are more accurate than those reported in existing literature (R2 = 0.74 vs. R2 = 0.21), making them attractive tools to identify lead exposure hotspots so that limited resources may be deployed towards those at most risks.
