Real-world data has been a source for creating control arms to evaluate results from single-arm trials in rare diseases and scenarios where randomization to a control group is unethical or unfeasible. However, reliable decision-making based on this methodology depends heavily on the validity of the control arm data. Faries will discuss the use of real-world data to supplement small control arms in RCTs – a hybrid approach which allows one to assess the validity of the control data. His talk will address the evaluation of statistical methodology for creating real-world control arms, including matching and reweighting algorithms, and the assumptions for validity of these methods.
