Session #3 -Understatanding Positional Power to Enhance Allyship

Why your attendance matters on February 5th:

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion are the heart of professional development
  • Cultivating a culture of equity requires everyone to promote acceptance and inclusion
  • Our professional environment is not currently representative of California; policies and practices contribute to inequitites reinforced by an environment of selective opportunity

February 5th workshop objectives:

  • Decode microaggressions and discrimination
  • Understand your position of power, why context matters, and how positions of power contribute to microaggressions and allyship.
  • Learn and practice skills to build confidence in acting as an ally!
  • Expand understanding of the unintended consequences of microagressions

A combination of individual reflection, partner discussion, and small group activities will allow attendees to develop skills applicable to real situations common to academic research setting.  This session builds on past content, but previous session attendance is not necessary.  Everyone is welcome!

*those who attend all four sessions will win a luncheon with Drs. Bibbins-Domingo & Morris, receive a DEB DEI Champion certificate and giftcard, and be featured in the DEB newsletter.
