Dr. Xia will discuss mediation analysis with complex intermediate causal structures, including settings with treatment-induced confounding and multiple mediators without a known causal structure between them. She will present natural effect decomposition, identification assumptions, semiparametric efficiency bounds, multiply robust and locally efficient estimators with related extensions. Unlike typical causal mediation analysis, special attention is needed to avoid model incompatibility. Examples will be presented to illustrate the proposed methods.
