Replaying germinal center evolution on a surveyed affinity landscape

How do phenotypic changes confer advantage in natural selection? In this talk, I will describe our work understanding this question for the germinal center, which is where antibody-making B cells compete to bind pathogen-associated molecules called antigen. Using transgenic mice and deep mutational scanning, we have replicate evolutionary histories and a clear view of the affinity landscape of these B cells.
