AIDS LifeCycle. A Final Ride. A Continuous Journey.

Map of bike route from SF to LAThis June marked a historic moment for the AIDS/LifeCycle community as riders gathered for the final time to bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles in a seven-day, 545-mile journey dedicated to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Among the thousands of passionate participants were two UCSF faculty: Dr. Ali Mirzazadeh, Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Dr. Will Brown Associate Professor, Department of Medicine.

Biking With Purpose: 5,000+ Miles for HIV/AIDS Support

In 2025, I completed my ninth and final ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles with AIDS/LifeCycle, the last 545 unforgettable miles of a journey that has shaped my life in profound ways.

Since 2014, I’ve ridden over 5,000 miles - 9 times from San Francisco to Los Angeles - and raised $33,327.68 to support HIV-related services and critical health programs. This year, alongside 2,067 cyclists and 750+ incredible roadies, we raised a record-breaking $17.3 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

Ali with arms spreadOver the past 31 years, this event has made a tremendous impact-raising over $300 million for life-saving HIV services. But this ride was never just about the distance and biking. It was about honoring those we’ve lost, supporting those living with HIV, and taking a stand for health equity and human rights. We rode with purpose. We laughed, cried, healed, and celebrated together.

To everyone who supported me along the way: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity and encouragement carried me through every mile. You made this journey and its impact possible.

With love!

Ali Mirzazadeh

Will Brown, also a long-time cyclist, joined the final ride to amplify awareness of the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS. His participation underscores UCSF’s longstanding commitment to global health equity and the power of collective action. Hear his remarks in this interview with ABC News.

While this marks the final AIDS/LifeCycle ride in its current form, the mission continues. For both Dr. Mirzazadeh and Dr. Brown, the end of this era is a reminder that while the road may change, the journey toward ending HIV/AIDS must carry on—with purpose, compassion, and resolve.
