We are pleased to announce a new award in 2022, to recognize exceptional work disseminating scientific ideas relevant to population health. This award is meant to highlight the essential role of communication of research findings or scientific ideas to a broad audience for population health work. We invite nominations of communication or dissemination activities -- including for example blog posts, popular press articles, interviews with radio or TV, podcasts, tweets or other social media engagements – which convey important news about health research to a broad audience. Peer-reviewed scientific articles are not eligible for this award; we seek to recognize non-traditional scientific communication activities that expand beyond the peer-scientist community.
Trainees in any DEB undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate training programs within the past 3 years are eligible for this award.
The 2022 submission deadline has been extended to August 1, and the awardee will be announced in September.
Award Criteria and how to apply/submit a nomination:
Nominations will be evaluated on (1) public health importance of the topic addressed, (2) effectiveness of the outreach effort, and (3) innovation of the activity. Research demonstrating efficacy of alternative health communication approaches may also be considered.
Please include the submission and a cover letter explaining the importance, any information on effectiveness, and (if not obvious) the innovation of the activity. As this is the first year of this award, these criteria are not set in stone so if you have a submission that extends beyond these criteria, please feel free to contact us.
Submissions should be emailed to [email protected] no later than the August 1 deadline.
